Spring Competitive 2015 Tryout and Team Formation Information

FAQs regarding tryouts and team formation for Spring 2015

1.     Tryouts seem to imply cuts; are you going to make any cuts?
Short Answer: no.
Long answer: We do our best every year to not make any cuts. However, we are a competitive club and starting at U13 we divide players into teams as best as possible based on their ability. Whenever it is possible, we make multiple teams at age groups. We sometimes create multi-age teams to provide kids the opportunity to play. Cutting kids only happens if we can't place the player on a team or there are behavioral issues. We expect all players and teams to be competitive and serious.

2.     When will teams be announced?
Teams will be announced by January 25th, with the exception of anyone left to tryout.

3.     What about makeup tryouts?
We don’t punish any player for not being able to tryout either because of a scheduling conflict or due to an injury. If a player is unable to tryout, they will be provided the opportunity for a makeup when they are able to tryout. The makeup tryout will take place during a team’s practices or potentially multiple teams' practices. The player will be observed by no fewer than 3 coaches and be given at least 2 practice sessions to be evaluated and placed.

Make sure you notify us if you are unable to make any tryout dates and we will help coordinate any makeup times needed.

Also please note that makeup tryouts may lead to roster adjustments. We will do our best to never have to bump a player down, but there may be an instance where a player from the select team gets bumped up to premier due to a late tryout in order to keep playing time as high as possible. Because of this possibility, select team rosters may be larger than premier rosters after the initial tryouts due to anticipated late tryouts.

4.     When do team practices start?
Teams are scheduled to start practicing the week of February 16th. Typically practices will be indoors up to Spring break.  We hope to get outside after Spring break, weather permitting.

5.     Where will practices be?
Indoor practices will be spread around Bozeman and Belgrade. As our club and the valley grows, it is getting harder and harder to find indoor space. We book as much as we can but sometimes that means we have to book in multiple gyms spread around the area.

If anyone has any leads to indoor space that we can use, please let us know! We will likely never have too much gym space and are always looking for more.

Once allowed on the fields, all outdoor practices will be at the Adam Bronken Sports Complex unless otherwise agreed upon by the coach and Director. The first couple weeks of outdoor practices may be spread around Bozeman and Belgrade while we wait for the green light to get on Bronken.

6.     What costs can we anticipate during the season?
The costs for playing competitive soccer can vary greatly depending on the level and team.  Costs of playing include tuition (coaching, fields, state registration fee...), uniforms, and travel (including overnight to the State tournament), optional additional gear (bag, warm-ups...), and optional tournament costs (elected as a team). We pay our coaches relatively well, including payroll taxes, travel reimbursement, etc., and we discourage any additional team-based direct payments other than those associated with optional tournaments.

Team meetings will take place during February, and at your team meeting, the parents, Director, coaches, and team will discuss and recommend potential tournaments to attend.  A list of the recommended tournaments will be posted on the Competitive program page of the Blitzz FC website.

Overview of Blitzz FC Academy Program

The Academy Developmental Program helps children, ages U9-U11, shift from recreational to more competitive play, with an emphasis on teaching players fundamental individual skills. The goal of this program is to provide a high level of coaching, focus on individual techniques, and minimize the cost of traveling. While most games will be held in Bozeman, teams still travel to games and tournaments approximately every other weekend.  Blitzz Academy is the opportunity to bridge the gap between learning the essential techniques of soccer and competing by giving players the tools needed to compete at the older ages.
